Help release a new report on pedestrian safety

October 23, 2009

America Walks has been working closely with the staff at T4America on a new edition of STPP’s popular pedestrian safety report, Mean Streets.  You may recall that in 2004, America Walks co-released that report with STPP, garnering significant press coverage for both our local members and our national group, and raising the profile of pedestrian safety issues nationwide.

The new edition of Mean Streets has been re-dubbed, Dangerous by Design.  But the focus of the report remains a ranking of large metropolitan areas according to their “Pedestrian Danger Index.”  New sections of the report will discuss ways in which states and communities across the country have addressed walking safety issues, serving as models for other communities.

We would like to invite you to co-release this report in your community.  The release date is currently set at November 10th, though that may slip somewhat.  T4America can provide talking points and advance copies of the report and state fact sheets, as well as other sample release materials.  And America Walks will work with you to develop a release message and strategy.

Several America Walks partner groups have already signed on to co-release the report!  If you are interested in releasing Dangerous by Design, please contact Michelle Ernst at or at (212) 268-7474.
